  1. Paper cutting

Introduction: Paper cutting can be dated back to the Han Dynasty, 2,000 years ago. Nowadays, paper cutting is usually used as ornaments on windows, walls, and mirrors for essential festivals, such as the Chinese New Year. Different patterns represent people’s different wishes for happiness, good luck, comfortable life, and good health. Paper cutting can also be used for learning Chinese characters, such as the famous double happiness “囍”!

Learn & Experience: During this activity, children will learn the basic skills of paper cutting and create their own wishes for others or themselves, or they can create something they like. We will prepare the right scissors for children to make sure they are safe while having fun!

   2. Chinese Zodiac Signs Painting

Introduction: More than 30,000 years ago, Chinese ancestors invented the 10 Tian Gan (or heavenly stems) and 12 Di Zhi (or 12 earthly branches) for chronological purpose. Later, people used 12 animals to symbolize the 12 earthly branches in order to make things easier to memorize and the animals in order are the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. You might find out that many Chinese people strongly believe that the time of a person's birth is primary factor in determining that person's characteristics.

Learn & Experience:

  1. During this activity, children will learn the Zodiac Signs and how to tell the sign according to the year. Later, there will be games for them to attend. The    participating children would  get a gift if they could tell the right order of the twelve signs.

  2. Children will learn how to paint the zodiac sign of their own or their family members and take away.

Calligraphy shows the evolution of Chinese characters, most of the characters can be written in different formats, which we can still see in many places, even outside of China.

Learn & Experience: During this activity, children will learn the basic strokes of Chinese Characters by practicing Calligraphy. They will also learn how to recognize some characters which we call pictographic characters, and practice calligraphy under the teachers’ assistance. The children can also be given their Chinese names if they are interested.
